George Christopoulos, PhD, is an economist who studies innovation and the ways it contributes to the evolution of our economy and society.
He currently serves as Greece’s Secretary General for Economic Policy and Strategy. His responsibilities include EU economic policies, the cooperation with international economic organisations, structural reforms, macroeconomic forecasts and analysis, as well as state aid.
Previously he served as Deputy Governor at DYPA (ex OAED), Greece’s Public Employment Service. As a policy maker he specializes in the design and implementation of EU-funded investment projects. He has had a central role in the management of Greece’s national Recovery and Resilience Plan within the context of the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), the largest component of Next Generation EU (NGEU).
George also worked as an affiliated researcher at UNU-MERIT. His research interests focus on innovation and technological change, EU financial tools, labour markets, skills and regional growth. He has co-authored policy reports on behalf of the European Commission within the context of projects such as the Regional Innovation Monitor and the Business Innovation Observatory.
He has previously worked in the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy and the Greek Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
George Christopoulos was born in London, UK, and is a graduate of Maastricht University, the London School of Economics and Political Science and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
